U.S. Imports versus Exports

January 1, 2011 by JakeR Leave a Comment

Everyone knows more and more goods are available from foreign countries than ever before.  I personally do not have anything against free trade, in fact that is one reason there is so much potential for prosperity in the world.  The problem I have is when the trading becomes one-sided.  The U.S. exports $1.838 trillion per year and imports $2.395 per year.  This equates to spending 1.3 times what the U.S. makes.  As any personal finance counselor would tell any individual, it means that you are broke. How much more so for a whole country?

Here is a widget I made using wolfram alpha widgets that allows you to compare the imports and exports of countries to see where the flow of money is going.

Here are some resources where you can find American made products.
